I’m a JUMP IN type of girl. (Psst that’s me splashing in the water)
Dive – is a scary word for me.
When I was learning how to dive I actually scrapped my knee on the bottom of the Olympic pool. Everyone else was diving into the water like they were dolphins.
Not me.
My form was awkward and it look like I didn’t belong there.
Up to that point in my life I had a dream of joining the swim team. I loved swimming and all the different strokes but I couldn’t dive.
I was so embarrassed that I gave up on that dream. If you can’t dive then surely you can’t join the team.
That one knee scrap caused me to give up on something I really wanted. As an adult I now know I should have tried until I mastered the skill but in my child like heart I felt defeated.
To be honest I still do not dive into a pool and prefer to just jump in. Maybe I should learn how to dive. So I can let go of this fear.

Hi, I’m over from the Linky Party. Mine started out the same way – Diving to me is scary! I have a fear of open water swimming and gave up on a dream of doing a mini-triathlon because I couldn’t face the open water. It’s sad that we gave up on these dreams because of this fear! I hope you are able to get over your fear of diving! A great and honest post. Thank you for sharing.
Lori – thank you for stopping by and being honest with me as well. I do need to put diving on my bucket list. I don’t want to live a life with regrets. Thanks for the encouragement.
Jumping in is all right in my book! I tend to dip a toe in, then take it one cautious step at a time. Needless to say, I’m trying to be more fearless! Also, it’s never too late to join the swim team–go for it! Blessings to you!
Being fearless is hard at times but at the same time I normally feel more alive when I’m fearless. Hmmmm joining the swim team now – I love that idea. You’ve given me something to think about. Thanks for stopping by. I loved your post today.
Awww . . . I know what you mean about allowing something to cause you to give up a dream. I hope you find the courage to just go for it! Here from FMF. I enjoyed your post!
Mary – thank you for the encouragement. I am loving all of the FMF love. Who knows maybe this year I will have a photo of me diving. Thanks for stopping by.
Lesson learned and I applause your jump in approach to life. But I say you are a DIVER…maybe not when it comes to swimming, but you are an excellent diver when it comes to executing new and challenging ideas. I’ve watched you dive right into community outreach, global endeavors, and DIY crafts resulting in a smooth dive. Jump in or dive…both techniques will result in getting wet.
Awwww – thanks Mom. As always you are my #1 cheerleader. Your kind words mean a lot to me. Thank you for always supporting my dreams.
